My Story
I was a good sportsman, but struggled to read and write at school. As a result I struggled to understand maths questions, even though I could do the maths. This made me quite nervous and anxious turning up to these lessons and the only tools in the tool kit I had was my grandad’s baccy tin, with words in it to help me learn the basics. Not the best! And yes, you guessed correctly I had to resit my exams, but I never gave up trying to learn!
In 2011, I ran an after school club to help students improve their numeracy skills. Doing work sheets was boring and this is when the fun began and Mi-box Live was born. It has evolved ever since, helping all kinds of learners engage in maths in a fun, sporty way.
About Us
We specialise in designing Maths Sports Challenge board games worldwide, supported by the UK government through Innovate UK. Our mission revolves around promoting interactive, face-to-face learning experiences that bring people of all mathematic abilities together.
Our approach incorporates friendly competition, supporting young people in developing emotional regulation skills through both victory and participation. Welcome to Mi-Box Live Maths Sports Challenge, a board game and award-winning app backed by Innovate UK. We combine maths with the team ethos of sports to engage and inspire confidence in numeracy learning. Mi-Box Live merges technology with hands-on learning to develop students’ skills in using methods to accurately solve problems. We are highly focused on developing the resilience, teamwork, communication and sportsmanship of learners turning them into inspired, confident numeracy masters.
The hybrid nature of the game helps teachers and parents to support students to meet the requirements of the school curriculum whilst being able to engage the whole family. The game features a 1-20 times table track and card game which expands into the app, allowing players of all abilities to compete fairly against each other no matter where they are in their learning journey.
This game is the result of 16 years of research and development in a school context. We included everything you need to support learning such as a learning board with a built-in number line and cleverly designed rotating times table column to help with multiplications from 1-12. The hook to engage is the Mi-box Live athlete figurines. Each of the 8 figures has its own unique identity with the language for numeracy learning printed on to support that all-important maths vocabulary. The app has some fantastic features to bring all types of learners together to enjoy maths in a fun, sporty way.
